It was first introduced and distributed as a medicinal herb that could promote health and longevity. Since then, Uji has become a prominent and important region for producing the finest quality green tea.

This process preserves the freshness and colour of the tea leaves and is actually one of the unique characteristics of Japanese green tea. Interestingly, green tea has become a favourite beverage among Japanese who can consume as many as 10 cups a day.
